This plea for help is being sent to all NET domain administrators. We believe we have eliminated all address duplications, but if you do get multiple copies of this, we sincerely apologize.
We do not intend this mail message as a rant. Instead, this is a cry for assistance from the NET community to help right a serious wrong. At the same time, we hope to demonstrate the effect individual free speech has on America in the total spirit of the Blue Ribbon campaign.
The problem? ------------ Ford Motor Company has started an advertising campaign designed to convince the general public that it has done all that is necessary by voluntarily recalling 8.7 Million vehicles manufactured with a FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. However, Ford is refusing to accept responsibility for the remaining 16 MILLION vehicles manufactured with this same switch by adding them to the recall.
The relevancy? -------------- The impact of Ford's decision has the potential to bring disaster directly into your life and the lives of your family and friends - as well as every individual that uses your NET domain for access to the Internet and their family and friends (and so on).
Overall, there are 26 MILLION vehicles that were manufactured with this faulty ignition switch from 1983 to 1993. This means that, in all likelihood, everyone in America knows someone who owns what can become a "FLAMING FORD".
Even with the amount of attention this has received from the press, and David Letterman, a lot of people are simply not aware of the true fire hazard this ignition switch represents. Most important, however, is that the majority of the public is completely unaware of the limited level of responsibility Ford has accepted in this matter.
What hazard does owning one of these 26 MILLION vehicles represent? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Our 85 Ranger started on fire at 2:00 A.M. after being parked for 8 hours because the ignition switch shorted. No warning - it just spontaneously combusted. Our saving grace was that the truck was parked in the driveway of our home. Had it been in the garage, I don't know if I'd be here today to send you this letter and ask you for your help.
Our website (www.flamingfords.info) is the only totally independent source of information about this life and property threatening situation. We need help making as many members of the entire US Internet community aware of the issues and potential for property damage and loss of life that exists.
-- The question we need to ask Ford is how many vehicles and homes must go up in flames before they issue a FULL recall?
-- The question we need you to ask yourself is this:
Even if it's only remotely possible that someone you know or love could die from a fire caused by a Flaming Ford, is it not our responsibility to use the Internet to inform anyone and everyone in hopes of preventing that disaster from happening?
Afterall, bandwidth isn't THAT expensive!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- What are we REALLY asking you to do?
We believe a show of net-solidarity can turn the tide and get Ford to do what is right and recall ALL 26 MILLION affected vehicles. Our proposal is to demonstrate this solidarity by the addition of the following question on as many WWW home pages as possible:
Do you own a Flaming Ford?
No, no more ribbons. Instead, we've got a nice BLUE BUTTON gif (6K) on our Website which you can download and use to link back to our site.
Of additional help, any ability to pass information along to your users, or get the BLUE BUTTON on the other home pages of your subscribers is greatly appreciated.
Thank you - and thanks for the use of your bandwidth.
